Curriculum & Instruction
I have extensive training in Columbia Teacher's College Reading and Writing Project. I started my training in 2009 and have been actively implementing and learning new units of study ever since. I have experience with both kindergarten and grade 5 units of study. This multiple grade level exposure has given me a vast knowledge of the K - 6 Reading and Writing learning progressions. I am currently learning to implement math workshop as well.
Reading and writing workshops are deliberately designed to offer a simple and predictable environment so that the teacher can focus on the complex work of observing students' progress and teaching into their needs.
Each session begins with a minilesson.
Kids sit with a long-term (A/B)partner while in the minilesson.
The minilesson ends with the kids being sent off to their own independent work.
As students work, the teacher confers with them and leads small groups.
Partway through independent work time, the teacher stands and delivers a mid-workshop teaching point.
The workshop ends with a share.
Understanding By Design &
Talented & Gifted
I have training and experience with writing curriculum with the UbD format. I am also a member of the ELA steering committee and have worked in the capacity of the Talented and Gifted Liaison at Strong School. I have led all grade levels through type 1, 2 and 3 enrichment activities via a School-Wide Enrichment Model. I organized a successful One School, One Read project through this work.
